Utricularia blanchetti is a perennial bladderwort that is very easy to grow. It prefers sandy peat that is constantly moist and can spread quickly. The terrestrial leaves are typically small, narrow and spatulate. The tiny bladder traps form in the soil, and catch small critters, like ciliates. The flowers resemble numerous, dainty, slightly ruffled, lilac colored aprons, dark purple tops and bright yellow throats. Flowers often occur in large groups with several flowers per spike. It flowers in the Spring and Fall. Avoid frost. Between flowering, it seems to disappear on the surface, but is growing actively in the soil. Be careful not to discard it during this time.  It is great in a terrarium, and does well in the window and greenhouse.
